Comparison of adjectives
1. Comparative (darker, younger, more useful)
2. Superlative (the darkest, the youngest, the most useful)
REGULAR COMPARISON
Monosyllabic (jednoslabičná) adjectives use -er for the comparative and -est for the superlative. The definite article the is used before a superlative.
nice > nicer > the nicest
Final consonants are sometimes doubled:
big > bigger > the biggest
fat > fatter > the fattest
thin > thinner > the thinnest
sad > sadder > the saddest
Final -e is dropped:
large > larger > the largest
When a word ends in a consonant and -y (this means that the final -y is pronounced as /i/), the final -y is changed to -i:
early > earlier > earliest
Adjectives of three or more syllables use more and the most:
careful > more careful > the most careful
expensive > more expensive > the most expensive
