Katy, a clothes designer

Katy is a clothes designer. She designs clothes for plays in theatres. Katy has a lot of work. She designs for many directors and also she teaches design in schools. She teaches young designers. She gets a call from a director. The director knows Katy and he wants her to design clothes for his next play. He asks Katy if she has time. Katy asks about the play. The director tells her that there will be only a few actors in the play. Katy thinks she has time. The director sends her the text of the play. It is a long text. She reads the text. She thinks about the play. She tries to see the actors in the play. After reading she plays her favourite music. She opens her notebook and looks for photos of the actors who will play. She prints the photos. Then she sits down to a desk with small pieces of paper. It is for the actors. She puts the photos on top of the papers. She starts drawing. First she just draws lines. They are not clothes. They are only lines. Then she draws people. People in clothes. She draws all actors. First she has design without colours. Later she colours the clothes. When she doesn’t like a drawing she puts it on another table and starts again. When she likes the drawing she smiles. Sometimes she is ready in one day. Sometimes she draws for several days. When she is ready she scans the drawings into the computer and sends them to the director. The director looks at the drawings and says what he likes and what he doesn’t. She is happy when the director likes a drawing and she redraws the drawings which the director doesn’t like. When the director likes all photos, Katy’s job is over. She doesn’t make clothes. She only designs them.
