EU Countries
The European Union was created in 1992 when the Maastricht Treaty was signed. The Union has its own history. Its beginnings go back to 1950 when the European Coal and Steel Community was founded. Its members were France, Germany, Italy and the Benelux (The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg). Then many other countries decided to enter into the wave of post-war cooperation such as Denmark, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Portugal and Spain. Today there are 27 countries in the European Union listed in the chart below.
