The City of Ostrava is divided into 23 Municipal Districts.

Its management operates on two levels.

On the first level there are the City bodies, i.e. the City Assembly, the City Council, the Mayor, the City Authority and the City Police Force.

On the second level, it means on the level of the Municipal Districts, there are the District bodies: assemblies, councils, mayors and authorities.

The City Assembly has 55 members and is elected by citizens for a four-year period. The tasks of the Assembly are for example:

Approving of the City Development Programme, the management of the City’s assets and property, the approving of the City’s budget and final accounts, the election, constitution and institution of City bodies, the management of the City Police Force, and the giving of honorary citizenship and City awards.
